Quiet Use Coalition Pushes Proposal for Non-Motorized Use in Pike & San Isabel National Forests

The Quiet Use Coalition, an organization representing Forest users in the Pike and Isabel National Forests, has prepared a proposal for the Forest Service that examines and recommends 16 areas in the Forest for quiet use. The proposal seeks to limit motorized use on trails and lakes where evidence exists that such use significantly impacts the integrity of the ecosystem and/or creates conflicts between user groups.

Many of the proposed quiet areas are recommended for closure to all motorized vehicles, however the Coalition advocates the use of road-approved vehicles on selected jeep roads to provide access for recreationists. The Coalition's proposal details each area recommended for quiet use, many of which have been identified by the Forest Service Roadless Area Review and Evaluation as recommended areas for addition to the Wilderness system.

The BSA looks forward to future collaboration with the Quiet Use Coalition and supports their efforts to preserve a quality quiet recreation experience on public lands.
